SINATRA ON SCREEN
According to IMDb, Frank Sinatra’s first big screen appearance was as a Dorsey band member in Las Vegas Nights, from 1941. His last screen outing was Cannonball Run II, from 1984.
The Manchurian Candidate From Here to Eternity
All in all, fifty-five motion picture appearances. Many of these projects were non-musical, dramatic performances; Some Came Running, The Manchurian Candidate and From Here to Eternity among them.
Of course, a great many projects were loaded with music.
Young at Heart Pal Joey
In films such as Pal Joey, On the Town, and Young at Heart, Frank Sinatra was clearly in his element.
We will turn our attention to memorable musical performances for the movies by Mr. S when we open Chapter Twenty-One of THE SINATRA SONGBOOK, Saturday, January 5 at 6pm EST and Sunday at 8am EST, exclusively on Metromedia Radio, (metromediaradio.net).
BUILDING YOUR COLLECTION
Continuing our discussion of albums that belong in a complete Sinatra collection, we come to Sinatra Swings, also released as Swing Along with Me (1961)
Arranger-conductor, Billy May is on-board once again. And once more, Billy’s tongue is firmly in cheek for this collection of swingers. May’s sense of humor is particularly evident on Granada. Frank’s read is absolutely wonderful. The entire date clearly lives up to its title, whichever you prefer.
FAREWELL 2012 – WELCOME 2013
A personal thought. It’s the last blog of 2012 and the first of 2013. THE SINATRA SONGBOOK launched on Metromedia Radio in August of 2012.
Since then, I have come to know so many new friends, in the United States and abroad. I am the richer for it.
And I never forget the music that is our uniting force. Thank heaven for this splendid music.
With the coming of the new year, there are grand plans for our program and for the entire channel. Hang on to your hats. 2013 will really be something.
May the new year bring you prosperity, good health, love and peace.
to be continued…
